Why use family mediation

You are in the center of a break-up with your spouse. You are discussing separation or divorce, sharing of goods, child custody, alimony. Everyone is tense and upset … communication has become painful, difficult or perhaps even broken. WHAT A MESS!

Let us help you. Our lawyers/mediators are certified professionals capable of guiding you in a mediation process while keeping in mind:

  • Your needs and interests
  • The equity and the law
  • The respect of your private life and confidentiality
  • The needs and interests of your children
  • Your will
  • Your budget

This is a summary of the mediation process:

  1. You and your spouse both EXPLAIN your point of you view to us;
  2. While one SPEAKS, the other LISTENS;
  3. At the end of each point of view, the mediator RECAPS briefly to ensure that each party has WELL UNDERSTOOD;
  4. Together, we set down the ISSUES TO RESOLVE;
  5. There follows a BRAINSTORMING SESSION where you develop options;
  6. Once all the options are on the table, you move on to NEGOTIATION;
  7. At the end, you decide to come into an AGREEMENT if you so wish.

You will benefit

Mediation is fast, flexible, voluntary, confidential and meets your requirements. You are in control of the costs and process. You decide on the number of sessions you need and can, during the sessions or outside of the sessions, put an end to mediation at any time without justification.

Our lawyers/mediators ensure that good manners prevail in order to avoid personal attacks and that each party expresses himself/herself without hostility, stereotype, threats, insults or intimidation.

If you have children, you are most likely entitled to six free one-hour sessions, since the sessions are government-funded (subject to the relevant law).

What are the prerequisites

You wish for an amicable agreement for you and your spouse for either one or several of these issues: separation, divorce, child custody, partition of the assets, alimony.

At the conclusion of an amicable agreement, our lawyers/mediators can represent you JOINTLY or otherwise before the Court in order to obtain a legal separation, a divorce or to have your agreements ratified by a tribunal.

If your break-up is a puzzling issue,
then let us simplify it for you.
